The Finishing Process

We use specialized equipment to break up clumps, remove surface rocks, and create a smooth contour that directs water away from your home.

1. Rough Grade Correction

We start by ensuring the sub-base is sloped correctly. This prevents “birdbaths” or standing water in the middle of your yard and ensures the foundation of your home stays dry.

2. Soil Conditioning & Power Raking

We use machine-mounted soil conditioners (Power Rakes) to:

  • Pulverize hard-packed dirt.
  • Remove rocks, roots, and debris.
  • Create a fine, loose “seedbed” that allows grass roots to take hold quickly.

3. Topsoil Spreading

If your existing soil is too rocky or clay-heavy, we can bring in and spread screened topsoil. We ensure an even depth across the site so the new lawn grows consistently without patchy spots.

4. Seeding & Mulching

Once the grade is set, we apply high-quality seed mixes suited for Central Pennsylvania’s climate. We can also apply straw or mulch blankets to protect the seed from birds and prevent erosion on sloped areas during the first few rainfalls.
